I am trying to learn how to take great photos of my 3 y/o twin girls. So far I have been cheating and getting so-so photos by putting my Canon Rebel on AF, portrait and setting the iso higher and shooting in natural light. After months of this, I can see its limitations and its weaknesses. I am not getting the shots I would like too. I am also going to embark on using Photoshop or another program.

I look forward to chatting with you all

This is always a big topic of discussion. While I am no professional, I feel a have a pretty good grasp on this. Anyone feel free to add on or challenge.

ISO Adjusts your sensor's sensitivity to light. Lower it for more detailed and when you have plenty of light. Raise it as your light source gets dimmer.

Aperture The best way to explain this is visually....http://www.photoaficionado.com/situationroom/aperture.html

Shutter speed How long your shutter is open allowing your sensor to be exposed ...

This might apply to Scrapbooking too, but I just started a Textures set on my Flickr. There are TONS of textures to be found on Flickr, but I just thought I would get the word out. Textures are often forgotten, or just people don't know about them. Enjoy! They are Creative Commons license. If you use one and it turns out particularly nice or need help please let me know.

1. Ronna Penner, who started my love for scrapping. Her kits are classy, beautiful and amazing. I was blessed to be on her creative team and she's just as beautiful as her designs:

2. Gina Cabrera, who my friend Jenn introduced me to when we first started out scrapping. At first I thought Gina's art wasn't "pretty' enough as I was used to the gorgeous files of Ronna, but ...

Does anyone do any extreme PP? I mean, beyond just the basic levels, curves etc. Extreme can be in your own mind...glamour (actually adding makeup), retouch (removing cracks and repairing stains from old photos), modifications (kind of like compositions, but adding elements to change the picture i.e. taking a beater car and turning it in to a hot rod).

I LOVE working on glamour. I finally have a decent camera so I hope to get more work done on my wife. I have the eyeliner and mascara down pat. ...

I wonder if getting a longer lens would give me a better pic in that situation, or would I just get a closer-up but equally blurry pic of her?

So here's my sad/annoying story: I bought the 40D (upgrading from the 20D) from B&H at the end of July and after just a couple days I noticed it was defective (like it didn't show all the numbers in the viewfinder) and some other little things. So I emailed B&H and they said, absolutely, they'd take it back and give me a new one, no charge to me (not even the shipping). It was AMAZING--i had my new 40D in 3 days! So far so good, right? Well, now I have a problem with my 2nd 40D, but ...

I have my new Rebel now but no real programs to play with my photos. Can I manage with the programs Canon gave me for a while or do I need to get photoshop now? I'm sure I would go with the elements just as it is soooo much cheaper than the better one's. How is the digital dark room , what do you use it for?

Hi,

I'm totally a photography newbie and planning to start to take photos as a hobby. I need nice camera. My price range is $400-700. Please feel free to suggest which one you think would be good, maybe one of the rebels (which one?) Should I get the best one I can get with my money or bit cheaper and an extra lens. I want to get a Camera I would be happy years and would not want a better one immediately. Thank you!
